Most of the content of this site has been moved to https://www.hutalliance.org/, which is now the primary source of authoritative information on huts in USA.
I am no longer active in hut research and have no plans to publish further posts/articles/country studies, etc. Its been great fun meeting hut folks and learning about this wonderful world of supporting long distance human powered travel in ways that protect the environment.
BTW, if you are interested in huts as a form of protecting nature, see Jeff Marion and Johanna Arrendondo’s article 10.13140/RG.2.2.28665.99687 “Minimizing Backcountry Overnight Visitation Impacts: A Comparison of Per Capita Resource Impacts from Lodges, Huts, and Campsites in Banff National Park”. Their recreation ecology research shows empirically how effective huts are in preventing human impacts on the environment compared with tent camping (in wild and on purpose-built tent sites) and other forms of overnight stays in the wild.
Thanks to all for your support over the years! The site has received lots of use and spread the word and technical information about huts.
